WatchProper Brushing Technique

Brushing your teeth properly: a quick visual guide

Frequency is only half of what makes brushing work. Technique carries just as much weight, and at Dr. Raffi General & Implant Dentistry we routinely meet patients who've spent years brushing at the wrong angle, with the wrong motion, or for far less time than they assumed. This short video walks through the correct approach in under a minute.

Tilt the bristles at a 45-degree angle toward the gumline, move in small circular sweeps, and work just one or two teeth at a time rather than dragging the brush across your whole mouth. Any plaque left behind starts releasing acid right away, wearing down enamel and irritating gum tissue, so the inside and chewing surfaces need the same attention as the visible fronts of your teeth.

Two full minutes, morning and night, with flossing folded into the routine, is the target. Even a flawless home routine leaves some plaque behind, which is exactly why regular checkups and cleanings matter: a professional cleaning clears the hardened tartar that no amount of brushing can remove on its own.

Bleeding gums when you brush, or any question about which brush or technique suits you, is worth raising at your next visit. We're glad to walk through it with you one-on-one.
